From Cuba to a New Legacy
Raised in the tobacco barns of Cuba, César learned the art of rolling and blending at the Romeo y Julieta factory, where he was formally trained. In 1994, the 32-year-old “non-conformist” fled Castro’s regime on a raft, carrying only a dream: to revive the pure, soulful cigars of his past. Guided by memory—and by ancient Taino methods—he dedicated his life to recreating an authentic Old Cuban craft.
The Trade-Secret Third Fermentation
César’s journey spanned from Cuba to Las Vegas and finally to the fertile valleys of Nicaragua. Through decades of relentless experimentation and grit, he defied industry norms to birth Bariay 1492. The brand’s signature—and César’s legacy—is a delicate, trade-secret third fermentation process designed to set his blends apart from the global elite.
Bariay goes one step further by cleaning the tobacco of residual ammonia and other chemicals that may be left over from the farming process.
